Ludlow Small Gardens open day took place last week end – Saturday and Sunday 26th & 27th July 2014.
Here at the Rockspring Community Garden we had 150 visitors throughout the weekend. Everyone was very impressed with the garden and how the volunteers are running it. We even managed to sell some vegetables!
The judges were out and about yesterday looking at all the lovely gardens in bloom.
See results below.
We had a great turn out for the Free Plant give away Day!
Over 500 plants were kindly donated by Angela Siminson to give away to residents living in the Sandpits area.
We sometimes have volunteer vacancies for a catering assistant to help our volunteer caterer at Rockspring Community Centre to help prepare lunch for our Thursday drop in sessions.
Help is given with travel expenses.

Rockspring Community Choir is very pleased to announce that they have received a grant of £500 from Shropshire Housing Group’s Community Development Fund.
Chris Lacey added “As the Musical Director of the Rockspring Community Choir, I am thrilled and delighted that we have been awarded this generous grant. The money is very much needed and most appreciated by everyone involved. It will go towards some new music to extend our repertoire, making our appearances in and for the local community even more enjoyable, for performers and audiences alike.
We also want to use some of the grant to promote the Rockspring Community Choir – Rockers for short. We want to attract more members through community workshops, and performances for the people of the Rockspring estate and the Ludlow area. Through the workshops, people with absolutely no musical experience can come along and discover the joy and fulfilment to be gained from community singing and hopefully continue to experience the benefits by joining the choir”
The choir meets every Wednesday evening at the Baptist Church, Sandford Road, Ludlow, from 7.15pm to 9.00pm. Everyone is welcome, and as one member of the choir put it recently “I love the choir, it’s given me a sense of belonging, and the music making has opened up a new beginning for me. Its fun and I’ve met a whole lot of new people, all with a sense of common purpose. It’s done so much for me socially”
Rockspring Thursday went mobile again!
Rockspring Thursday group received a kind invitation from Mark Zenick of Mynd Hardy Plants at Delbury Hall, to see his collection of day lilies and walled garden on Thursday 18th July.
The group spent a very enjoyable morning there with tea and cake included, and arrived back at Rockspring with several beautiful plants which had been purchased at a very reasonable price.
As you are probably aware, the Community Directory has been around for 20 years and is a local guide to inform residents of any services they may need to know about in their area. Although many of these can be found via Google and the Yellow Pages, the community directory is highly valuable as it lists all services, which includes many self help groups, often run by volunteers, that simply can’t be found through the main stream methods.
The intention of the ASK THE ROCKSPRING! project is to either inform or remind everyone of the value of the Community Directory, and also to make it more accessible. Currently, the main method of access is through the internet. The Furniture Scheme is promoting four alternative methods, through ASK THE ROCKSPRING! These are by phone, text, email or dropping in to Rockspring Community Centre, Sandford Road, Ludlow.
With so many cuts to the public sector a valuable resource like the Community Directory really comes into its own. It is therefore our desire to make you aware of this newly refurbished service. Would you please alert people to its existence and let them know how to access it.
If you have any more questions or would like to know more about the ASK THE ROCKSPRING! project please do not hesitate to contact us.
