Charity bookshop in Craven Arms is to re-open

The Furniture Scheme, a local charity that supports people in crisis or in need, has agreed to take on the lease of the charity bookshop in Craven Arms and is hoping to re-open in March. The dedicated team of volunteers will continue to manage the shop on a daily basis and are looking for new volunteers to join them.

The money generated from sales at ‘The Charity Bookshop’ will help fund the work of the Furniture Scheme www.furniturescheme.co.uk . The Bookshop will also continue to support Severn Hospice with 10% of the profits being gifted each year.

The Furniture Scheme is seeking donations of good quality books prior to opening and these can be dropped off at CasCA, the Community Centre in Craven Arms that is also managed by The Furniture Scheme.

Jean Jarvis MBE, Chief Executive of the Furniture Scheme said, “The bookshop volunteers approached us before Christmas to see whether we may be able to help keep a charity bookshop in Craven Arms. We were so impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm of the volunteers that we are now finalising lease terms with the landlord, Shropshire Council, and hope to re-open in March.

It fits really well with our ethos of re-use and recycling and will complement our bookshop in Ludlow.  The Furniture Scheme has great respect for Severn Hospice and the fantastic work it does and we are hoping to find a way for both charities to benefit from the continued generous support of local people.”
